Clooney was protesting outside the Sudanese Embassy in Washington D.C. when he was arrested and hauled away from the scene by secret service officials.
George Clooney’s publicist, Stan Rosenfield said he was part of a protest against the violence committed by the Sudanese government against its own innocent citizens. The protestors are demanding that humanitarian aid be allowed to enter the country.
Friends of George Clooney say the Hollywood A-lister is thrilled about his arrest because it will draw more attention to the protest. George’s Dad, Nick, got arrested too, along with ten or so other people including Congressmen, Sudanese citizens, human rights activists and others.
Clooney was arrested for civil disobedience, after speaking passionately for several minutes. He had two demands for the Sudanese government:
“First, immediately we need humanitarian aid to be allowed into the Sudan,” Clooney said, when he was handcuffed by the police.
“Second they need to stop randomly killing innocent men, women and children. They need to stop raping them.”
