Back in February, the makers of “Downton Abbey” Season 4 were searching for an actor to play a jazz singer named Jack Ross. Now the search is over.
Jack was described as age 25-30, and a musician at an exclusive club in the 1920s. “He’s black and very handsome. A real man (not a boy) with charm and charisma,” the casting notice read, adding that the actor should “ideally be able to sing brilliantly. … Overall he should be a very attractive man with a certain wow factor.” Jack was said to be set to play a key role.
Well, today, executive producer Gareth Neame announced (via Deadline) that jazz singer Jack Ross would be played by actor Gary Carr.
Gary’s addition to the show “will bring interesting twists to the drama,” Neame said.
The British actor, aged 26, has had major roles in other popular UK TV series “Death in Paradise,” and “Silent Witness.” He will have some help settling on to the set as two other newbies will also be joining the hit show for season 4.
According to a PBS press release, the new characters include a valet, an old friend of the Dowager, and a love interest for widowed Lady Mary.
“Downton Abbey” season 4 premieres on PBS in January 2014. Only 8 months to wait, then!
