The wealthy real estate giant with the even bigger hair had used his status as a television celebrity to get publicity for his campaign, even though it was never entirely clear whether he really is a Republican.
Certainly, Trump spoke up loud and clear about wanting proof that President Barack Obama was really born in the United States and he became the unofficial leader of the “birther” movement.
However, the Celebrity Apprentice host’s credibility was damaged as Obama produced a longer version of his birth certificate that was further proof of what most Americans already believed: that the president was born in Hawaii in 1961.
Trump was further humiliated when Obama hammered home his point with some well-timed jabs at the April 30 White House Correspondents Association annual dinner, where Trump was a dinner guest.
“No one is prouder to put this birth certificate matter to rest than the Donald. And that’s because he can finally get back to focusing on the issues that matter – like, did we fake the moon landing?” President Obama said at the time.
But, announcing that he was stepping down from the Presidential campaign, Trump asserted his belief he would have won the presidency if he had decided to run.
I guess we’ll never know, will we? But at least we know the President is American. Thanks for everything, Donald; you’re fired as a serious political candidate.
