The urban DJ and TV personality, DJ Megatron (Corey McGriff) has been shot dead at the tragically young age of 32. His death came early on Sunday, near his home on Staten Island, New York City. The cause of death was gunshot wounds to the chest but it is not yet known who killed him.
DJ Megatron built up his successful career through hip-hop and R&B radio stations in Philadelphia and Boston and hosted an occasional BET television segment. Police said he had been heading to the store at around 2am on Sunday morning when he was shot and killed by a gunshot wound to his chest. No-one has yet been arrested in connection with the crime and it is not known if he was the intended target.
His family and friends say it is a mystery why anyone would wish to kill him. He was known for his positive, likeable personality and had no known enemies.
His manager said, “He probably had one of the best personalities around. Super-positive, happy all the time.”
DJ Megatron began his radio career as an intern but soon rose to prominence at Kiss FM. He went on to work at Boston’s Hot 97.7, or WBOT-FM, and at WPHI-FM in Philadelphia. Most recently, he worked on BET’s “106 & Park” musical countdown show, showing his talent for working with a live audience.
“He will truly be missed,” said the network.
