You can be forgiven for being sceptical that Motown legend Diana Ross would take custody of Michael Jackson’s children when and if something should happen to their grandmother, Katherine Jackson. But apparently, it’s true!
Katherine Jackson, who currently cares for Prince (14), Paris (12) and Blanket (9), will turn 81 on May 4. With the best will in the world, she is likely to have passed away or be too frail to look after the children before the youngest achieves adulthood. So, next in line for their guardianship will be Diana Ross. Ms. Ross is currently 67.
Diana Ross was a close friend of Michael Jackson’s for many years. According to sources close to the deceased superstar singer, Jackson actually named Ross as the children’s guardian in his will. However, Diana Ross held back from stepping into that role out of respect for their grandmother. Jackson obviously trusted his mother to care for his children and so Ross is waiting in the wings until such time as she is needed.
Court documents recently revealed that she has a live-in caregiver to help with the children. However, she is a doting grandmother. Sources close to Michael Jackson say he knew that but was mindful of his mother’s age and so named Diana Ross as a second guardian. She has five adult children.
A source from Ross’ entourage said the “Endless Love” singer has so far not been involved in the children’s lives, but “she will step in if there’s an immediate need to do so.”
