Derek Hough is more relaxed than usual at this stage of Dancing With The Stars. He says he doesn’t feel any pressure to win the competition with his celebrity dance partner Ricki Lake, despite the fact they have topped the leader board many times.
So is Derek getting arrogant and feeling like he and Ricki have the competition in the bag already? Well, no, that’s not it either.
The three-time winner Hough and his partner Ricki Lake finished top of the leader board on last night’s semi-final. They also achieved their first perfect score of the season for their Argentine tango.
But speaking backstage, professional dancer Hough said that he wasn’t feeling any pressure to win. He said that after last week they proactively decided to take yhe pressure off themselves.
Hough said after last night’s performance,
“Normally at this stage in the competition I’m like, ‘We gotta win’ and I feel this pressure, but I don’t really feel that pressure this season. It felt nice tonight to enjoy it.”
Why is that? Largely because he feels he has achieved so much with Ricki this season.
“She’s in fantastic shape, we’ve gotten some amazing scores, we’ve had some memorable routines, and for me, being memorable is more important than winning,” he said.
His interview comments echoed what he had already told Ryan Seacrest in his radio show when he said,
“I feel Ricki has accomplished so much already… Whatever happens with the outcome it will be a successful season.”
Ricki Lake and Derek Hough are up against Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke, JR Martinez and Karina Smirnoff, and Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy for a place in the Dancing With The Stars 2011 finale.
Dancing with the Stars continues tonight (Tuesday) at 9/8c on ABC.
