Deandre opened the Wednesday night performance show with his version of “I Like It” by Debarge.
The judges were impressed. Jennifer Lopez and Steven were captivated by the natural performance, which Randy called it a “perfect song choice, one of my best performances from you yet.”
It was apparently a strong start to the show. And first up is always difficult.
But has Deandre’s stubborn insistence on sticking to his R&B roots damaged him in the eyes of the more poppy demographic that usually makes up the American Idol audience?
Jimmy Iovine may have called Deandre “the weakest of the boys” but his effortless falsetto had drawn great praise from the judges. He seemed to be getting better and better.
Deandre was the second consecutive person to leave the American Idol 2012 competition after apparently his best performance. Heejun Han was the same last week.
What do you think to Deandre’s exit from the competition? Will you miss him?
