“Dancing With the Stars” Season 16 Shocker – Which Contestant Withdrew?

The first elimination night of this season’s “Dancing With the Stars” was a dramatic one.

In a shocking turn of events, the bottom two celebrities – “Real Housewives” star Lisa Vanderpump and boxer Victor Ortiz – were spared after another star withdrew due to injury.

1976 Olympic figure skating champion Dorothy Hamill announced she was leaving upon her doctor’s recommendation.

“I’ve taken the advice of my spine surgeon and I need to withdraw from the competition,” the 56-year-old said. “I have an injury that could be irreparable and nerve damage and it would be completely unfair for me to stay in this and have any of these people go home.”

Dorothy’s partner, Tristan MacManus, agreed with her decision to quit.

“It’s a decision that has to be made,” the pro dancer said. “I’m certainly not frustrated at her, I’m frustrated with her. There’s something a lot bigger going on than this competition.”

Figure skaters have traditionally done very well on “Dancing with the Stars” in the past, with 1992 Olympic champion Kristi Yamaguchi winning the mirror-ball trophy in Season 6 and 2010 Olympic champion Evan Lysacek finishing as runner-up in Season 10.

Lisa, Victor and the nine remaining Season 16 contestants – Andy Dick, Aly Raisman, Zendaya Coleman, Ingo Rademacher, Kellie Pickler, D.L. Hughley, Sean Lowe, Wynonna Judd and Jacoby Jones – will all return next week to compete again.
