“Dancing with the Stars” 2012 proved a difficult week for contestant, Melissa Gilbert. She hurt her head after dancing a demanding Paso Doble routine Monday night with partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Although she managed to stand through the judges’ commentary, she was quickly carried down the skybox stairs by fellow “DWTS” contestant, Gavin DeGraw, to seek medical attention. She later learned from doctors that she suffered a mild concussion and whiplash.
Early Tuesday morning, Gilbert tweeted the following:
“I‘m alright. Mild concussion and whiplash. Very soon I will be safely home resting and being taken care of.”
“(Melissa) had some concussion-like symptoms after she got her scores,” Maksim’s brother, Val Chmerkovskiy, told CNN. “She was a little nauseous and dizzy, so she decided to go to the hospital.”
Melissa Gilbert blogged on People that she’s been suffering injuries during rehearsals for “Dancing with the Stars.” She has a burn mark on her ankle from being dragged on the floor and wrote that she believes it will scar. Prior to being a “DWTS” 2012 contestant, Melissa continued that she wasn’t in the best cardiovascular shape to begin with and is turning 48.
As ABC’s “Good Morning America” reported Tuesday morning, contestants are at the point in the competition in which injuries are more prone to happen. The different routines call for a number of moves not normally executed before celebrities joined “Dancing with the Stars.” Competition gets more intense and rapid movements progress as the weeks go by.
Will Melissa Gilbert be on Tuesday night’s episode of “Dancing with the Stars” 2012? So far there’s no word on whether she’ll appear on the elimination show, but if she looks forward to going home it may not be what the doctor ordered. An even bigger question is if she’ll be on next week’s competition of “DWTS.”
