This week was quarterfinals week on ‘Dancing With The Stars’ and things got tough with a double elimination. So was there any dead wood around who wasn’t up to being at the business end of the competition? Yes, probably…and they are probably the ones went out of the competition last night. But at least one of them surely stayed in far longer than they could have expected.
Last night’s eliminated celebrities were Melissa Gilbert and Roshon Fegan. So now you probably know who I’m referring to above but I still love her. Oops, now you really know. My bad!
It was a night of great performances and now the dance off is no more, nothing could save actress Melissa Gilbert and Disney star Roshon Fegan.
Roshon and partner Chelsie Hightower were the first pair to be eliminated, followed by Melissa and her professional dance partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Neither elimination can have been a big surprise, surely? Sure, Roshon and Chelsie grabbed a second place finish on the leader board Monday night, but they had often been in the Bottom Two before that. Melissa, however, had taken up resident near the bottom of the leader board since she first stepped out on to the dance floor.
But the elimination was particularly sad as it came on Melissa’s 48th birthday. But at least she went out having achieved some of her best scores.
“I can’t even describe what a learning and growing experience this has been and it’s been a real blessing and a joy,” a tearful Melissa said after being eliminated. “And it’s been a joy to have my family here and… Maks has been amazing; and incredible teacher, an incredible friend.”
She was even unabashed by a birthday elimination.
“I’m amazed that I even made it this far and the things that I was able to do and the things that we were able to overcome to have been here, to be here today on this day does make it a really incredible birthday,” a proud Melissa said.
Roshon also was eliminated after one of his best nights on the show, landing just one point shy of the top spot (which was held by William Levy and Cheryl Burke).
Roshon and Chelsie’s first dance on Monday – the fox trot for his grandmothers – earned him big praise from all of the judges and a near perfect 29 points. Taken in isolation, that would have made it a big shock for him to be booted. But Sasha Farber (who promised in his trio rehearsals that he wouldn’t go home if he listened to the pro) was wrong.
Roshon said he leaves with his head held high – and a new skill to show off. And so he should.
“I’m definitely very happy that I can add ballroom dancing into my super duper dance move,” he grinned.
Following this double elimination, just four pairs remain in the competition: Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd; William Levy and Cheryl Burke; Maria Menounos and Derek Hough and Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas.
“Dancing with the Stars” returns Monday at 8/7c on ABC. Who are you rooting for now?
