The cast of the 14th season of “Dancing With The Stars” was announced this morning. So know we know who is dancing with whom, it’s time to take a closer look at the celebrities. We reality TV veteran watchers know that popularity is everything in these shows (even above real talent, at times). So who has the power to pull in the votes this season?
You will know Jaleel as Steve Urkel from Family Matters. His strength is that he can actually dance and has done so professionally. He was in the music video for Cee Lo Green’s Cry Baby. His weakness is he has a crazy side which might make him careless on the dance floor.
What are Jaleel White’s chances? Amazing! I’m excited already.
Sherri hosts The View (is anyone watching it?) and has her own Lifetime sitcom, Sherri. One thing in Sherri’s favor is that she is a huge fan of DWTS so she should know how it works by now. She has also lost a lot of weight this past year so she is fit and ready to get into training.
What are Sherri Shepherd’s chances? Moderate. She may not have a huge personal fan base but ABC will back her all the way and of course her daily show should be a good platform from which to plug for votes.
Gavin has sang some pretty good pop songs in the last five years, like Not Over You, ” Chariot and I Don’t Want To Be. His Dad was also a prison huard so hopefully he will have inherited the toughness gene. His bad point might have be that he sings THAT theme tune to One Tree Hill. But his songs to pull the heartstrings will have made him popular with the ladies, and who do you think votes most on Dancing With The Stars! Plus, he seems to be a really nice guy whose personality will come over well on TV.
What are Gavin DeGraw’s chances? I’d say they were pretty good.
You will know Maria as the host of EXTRA, where she previously has covered every season of DWTS for her job. So again she knows the game, and she can already dance. Her familiarity with the show may just be her downfall, though, if the judges are worried about looking like they are playing favorites. She already knows and has interviewed everybody involved in the show. Also, she doesn’t have a big fan base. She is really, seriously beautiful, but straight guys aren’t exactly the first ones to get on the phones to vote on Dancing With Stars, though, are they?
What are Maria Menounos’ chances? Slim, I’d say, so let’s hope she’s a great dancer.
Why you might know Donald (but probably won’t) is that he hhy you recognize him: Has played his entire NFL career for the Green Bay Packers since he was first drafted in 1999. So he should be agile and pretty fit. Football players have done notoriously well on Dancing With the Stars since they are so quick on their feet so he has that on his side. He also has a huge fan base which he may convert to watching DWTS. His weakness could be speed over precision.
What are Donald Driver’s chances? Pretty good if he can get his obsessive Green Bay Packers fans watching the show.
Katherine is an opera star who has sold over 7 million records and has made the crossover into pop too, so she definitely has rhythm and enjoys being in the spotlight so the nerves should not get to her for live performances. Her weakness may be that I’ve seen her dance on stage with Darcy Bussell and it’s not pretty. She also is incredibly popular in the UK but a relative unknown in the US, so who will vote for her, even though she is gorgeous?
What are Katherine Jenkins’ chances? I think she will impress on the dance floor, she just needs to get the American public to vote for her, so OK-ish.
You will recognize him as the star of Melrose Place, General Hospital, The Bold And The Beautiful and as Heather Locklear’s on-again-off-again boyfriend. He apparently is a “top celebrity golfer” so this agility should help him. Older ladies will love him too. His weakness could be delusions of grandeur holding him back from doing the real hard yard. He has recorded 5 rock albums!
What are Jack Wagner’s chances? That depends what side you’re on after witnessing Heather Locklear’s downward spiral into rehab after her breakup with him last late year.
Even if you don’t recognize this lady you will know her music. She is a legend. She also definitely has rhythm. But, we can’t forget that Gladys is now 67. DWTS is a big ask at this age. And unless you’ve really educated your kids, younger viewers sadly won’t have a clue who she is.
What are Gladys Knight’s chances? If she’s first out, I’d be shocked and you’re all a bunch of miserable traitors who can’t give a lady a break. But I can’t see her being around at the sticky end of the competition.
Few of the core Dancing With The Stars audience members will recognize this guy. If you’re a keen watcher of the Disney Channel, you may recognize him from the show Shake It Up. So basically if you’re over 16 you won’t have a clue who he is. But on the positive side, we know he can dance.
So what are Roshon Fegan’s Chances? Pretty high as I think the tweens watching DWTS with their parents will vote in their droves.
Martina is one of the greatest tennis players in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. She has beaten breast cancer and is still seriously muscular. It’s difficult to see a downside to Martina but I guess we don’t yet know if she has rhythm. And she stopped playing tennis over ten years ago so to some extent she is relying on nostalgia for her fan power. But we all know how strong nostalgia can be.
William, “the Brad Pitt of Cuba,” starred in the Jennifer Lopez music video for I’m Into You. One of his biggest advantages is that he is stunning to look at. But he is not well known in the US yet and there might be some jealousy over those looks.
What are William Levy’s chances? I’d say no great. He’s a relative unknown so unless he makes us fall in love with more than his looks, he’s not a strong contender.
I recognized Melissa right away as Laura Ingalls Wilder from Little House on the Prairie, but that perhaps says more about my age than her popularity. She’s a strong
leader, having been the president of the Screen Actors Guild for two terms. But will anyone the sticky side of 35 know who she is?
What are Melissa Gilbert’s chances? Slim. Very slim. I’m excited to see a little piece of my childhood all grown up too but her popularity relies solely on nostalgia.
Who do you think will win Season 14 of Dancing With The Stars?
