When “Couples Therapy” began filming, the Teen Bride was only 17. Due to child labor laws, she wasn’t legally able to spend the night with everyone else at the house after a long day of filming. It was the first time since their wedding in 2011 that she and her husband, Hutchison, 51, spent the night apart. That had to be a hard pill to swallow for the couple — who are taking a lot of heat from other cast members on the show.
Courtney Stodden has taken a lot of criticism from others on the show — especially Shayne Lamas. She’s not happy watching the teen flaunt her over-the-top sexuality around her husband, Nik Richie. They often have harsh exchanges no matter where they’re at on the show. As anyone can imagine, it would be difficult to have someone like Courtney distracting others when serious issues are at stake for couples trying to improve their relationships.
Dr. Jenn Berman asked the now 18-year-old if she was every sexually abused because she’s “hypersexual” in how she “presents.” Courtney denied ever being abused or molested by anyone. She said she’s simply more “comfortable” dressing the way she does. She even argued that it’s not like she’s “naked.”
Dr. Berman said in a preview of “Couples Therapy” that surprisingly Courtney has all the power in the relationship, not Doug. A lot will be learned about this couple as the show progresses. When Doug Hutchison married Courtney Stodden in 2011, they made headlines with their scandalous-like marriage. Dr. Berman also said Hutchison is NOT a “pedophile.” She claimed if the pair suddenly split up, she doesn’t believe Hutchison would actively seek another young woman.
“Couples Therapy” airs Wednesday nights on VHI at 9 p.m., ET/PT.
