Charlie Sheen was definitely not winning yesterday. The former “Two and a Half Men” star lost his battle to take temporary full legal and physical custody of his two-year-old twin boys, Bob and Max, from his estranged wife, Brooke Mueller. This is despite her much publicized drugs spree last week and her entry into rehab.
The fact that Brooke Mueller was obviously back on drugs last week and dodging mandatory urine tests clearly violated the terms of the ex-couple’s custody arrangement over their boys. So Charlie took Brooke to court in Los Angeles – and lost.
The custody hearing was carried out behind closed doors but the conclusion was that Mueller was allowed to maintain primary legal and physical custody of Bob and Max.
The decision may surprise many. Last week she suffered a significant relapse in her battle against her crack cocaine addiction. And yesterday, when she arrived at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, she was glassy-eyed, unsteady on her feet, and apparently heavily medicated. Her words were slurred when she tried to launch an obscene rant at a reporter, when she arrived at court.
Brooke also made no comment except to say “no comment” upon winning her custody battle. She will probably be pleased and surprised, though. While she has lapsed back into drugs, Charlie is happily passing drug test after drug test.
In reality, however, Brooke’s mother, Palm Beach, Florida, socialite Moira Fiore, will be the primary care for the boys. That is probably how it has always been as Brooke descended further into drug addiction, which has sometimes seemed like the strongest bond between their celebrity parents. This arrangement gives continuity of care to the boys.
Charlie wasted no time after the court hearing. Without stopping to see his boys, who spent the day on the jungle gym at the park with their nanny, he hopped straight onto a plane to Chicago where he is scheduled to continue with his “Violent Torpedo of Truth” tour.
