Celebrity Apprentice Recap: LaToya Jackson Fired

Last night on “Celebrity Apprentice” the men were confident that without Gary Busey to hold them back, they could triumph over the women. They got a helping hand courtesy of the mounting tension between NeNe Leakes and Star Jones. Even with only three men remaining in the competition, team Backbone seemed to have the advantage from the get-go.

NeNe Leakes started in a downbeat mood. After La Toya Jackson told Donald Trump that she’s the one person on the team that she hasn’t befriended, the Housewife felt she was unfairly labeled as negative and mean. She says she has been nice to everyone!

This latest challenge was to make a 4 page ad for Trump’s Hotel Collection. Each page of the advertisement also had to be able to stand on its own. They were to be judged on creativity, originality, brand messaging, and their overall pitch.

Team captains were John Rich for Backbone and Star Jones for A.S.A.P.

Everyone was warned to aim for a high-end audience. Star Jones felt she knew exactly what was needed as she had stayed in several Trump hotels over the years, so she immediately took charge and invented the tagline, “Individual Elegance. Collective Luxury.” LaToya Jackson worries stressed out about the lack of creativity but kept her worries to herself.

Team Backbone had fewer members and a lot less experience of staying at Trump hotels. However, they quickly settled on a visual concept, and know that they want to include “Live the Life” on every ad.

Star Jones got strategic, asking NeNe Leakes and LaToya Jackson to pair up and go shopping, but NeNe tells Star that she’s not comfortable with that. LaToya explained to NeNe that she didn’t mention her name in the boardroom because she didn’t think that NeNe liked her. After LaToya explained how she has felt slighted throughout the competition, NeNe began to see things from her point of view, and the two hugged it out. However, NeNe’s guard was still up. Finally, they got down to some work – the work of beautifying themselves.

Of course, that put them behind on time, but with NeNe Leakes and LaToya Jackson returning from shopping as BFF’s. Star obviously missed the memo putting NeNe in charge of Hope’s bathtub shoot, and promptly took over, sending NeNe into a mood.As usual, though, the girls pulled things together at the last minute.

Team Backbone weren’t doing much better, with Lil Jon and John Rich not at all happy with the photos of the butler that Meat Loaf directed. With so little time and so much text left, John Rich got the guys going through their ads word by word to correct any errors.

Ads done, it was on to the presentations!

Team Backbone went first, with John Rich getting each of them to describe their unique experience staying at the Trump hotel. He’s pretty happy with his efforts.

Star Jones was the main presenter for team A.S.A.P., with each of the women chiming in with various words that describe the Trump hotel experience.

The executives found the women’s ads corny but didn’t really like the ads that the men created either, especially as they were too wordy and some errors still remained.

So, it was too close to call how the boardroom meeting would go.

First Donald Trump asked NeNe Leakes what she thinks of the team, and she says that while Marlee Matlin is the smartest and strongest team member, she thinks that she and Hope are often “up Star’s ass.” Surprisingly, NeNe claims that LaToya Jackson isn’t afraid to stand up to Star and that she’s seen her do it before.

John Rich says that his entire team pulled together to do an amazing job, but both teams were shocked when Donald Trump told them that the execs didn’t like either of their campaigns. Then he proceeded them exactly why.

Eventually, Trump declares the losers to be team A.S.A.P.

Star Jones tried to argue the good points of each of her team-mates. That’s probably because the ad concept was largely hers. NeNe couldn’t make a decision on who should be fired, but LaToya Jackson wasted no time in saying that it’s Star that should be sent home. Marlee Matlin, however, disagrees and says that LaToya should be fired because of her performance throughout the competition. NeNe quickly agreed, (so much for BFFs!). Trump, Jr. argued that the same could be said about Hope, and points out that in more than one task, the executives felt that LaToya Jackson was the one the out-performed them all.

So, Star Jones selected LaToya Jackson and NeNe Leakes to return to the boardroom with her. The look on NeNe’s face was priceless as Star abruptly left it up to her to describe LaToya’s performance. Then things got bitchy. NeNe told Trump that LaToya is not a strong competitor. LaToya pointed out all the times that Star’s bad decisions caused them to lose. Star shot back with the fact that LaToya doesn’t really do much of anything!

Donald Trump then stepped in to put them out of their misery. Telling LaToya of his newfound respect for her as a businessperson, he pointed out that she’s not prepared for how intense the competition is going to get, and that without her, the women will have a better chance of beating the men.

So, it’s goodbye LaToya Jackson. You’re fired!
