Due to the emergency breaking in of transmission to announce the death of Osama Bin Laden, you may be wondering what happened on “Celebrity Apprentice.” We can tell you now that Hope Dworaczyk was the one to be fired.
Here’s how it happened in an episode that saw a few old faces return.
The challenge this week was to put on a hair show with the help of two stylists. Brand messaging and creativity in showcasing the hair-care and styling products were judged, as well as the overall production.
Going down the rock paper scissors route, Lil Jon found himself Project Manager for Backbone. But over at team A.S.A.P., things got a nastier right away. NeNe Leakes tells Trump that Star volunteered her for the job of Project Manager, but that she would gladly assume the role herself to get rid of Star. She then launches a verbal attack on Star having manipulated the women from the start, with Hope Dworaczyk as her “puppet.”
A humiliated Star Jones declared that she’s eager to show the world how an educated black woman handles confrontations and stressful situations vs. an uneducated black woman. (Presumably, Star was calling herself the educated one!)
The contestants were dismissed, but NeNe’s rant continued. Star finally asked Leakes what she is supposed it have done. NeNe couldn’t give her a more articulate answer than telling her to “shut the f__ up!”
Team Backbone seized the advantage. While the girls were busy attacking each other, the boys got down to planning, looking at hair shows online. They got strategic, too, calling former A.S.A.P. team member and supermodel, Nikki Taylor to participate in their show. Nikki jumped at the chance but wondered why Team A.S.A.P. didn’t ask her. John Rich explained that the girls are not exactly getting along and she was better off out of it.
NeNe Leakes tried to tell her team-mates about the hair shows in Atlanta that she’s ben to, but after her earlier behavior, no-one really wanted to listen to her. Eventually, though, they got behind her concept of “Shake Your Beauty.” Team Backbone decided on “Feeling Good in America” as the theme of their show.
But then we were in for a surprise. Fired apprentice La Toya returned to privately plead her case with Trump. But she didn’t want to re-join her team-mates. No, she had her sights set on joining Team Backbone to prove herself as a competitor and beat Star Jones. Donald Trump made her wait for his answer so you’ll have to read on to see what happened.
Star produced a Power Point presentation to play during their show. She is sure NeNe can’t pull off a win without her help. Members of both teams also headed over to Lord & Taylor to shop for show clothes.
Then everyone headed to the salon when the stylists started working on the models. Just as Ivanka Trump was remarking on the calm atmosphere, Nikki Taylor rocked up! John Rich had her go over to say hi to her former team-mates but they played it cool, NeNe quickly called Hope to tell her not to tell Nikki, to whom she’s remained close, any of the team’s plans.
On the day of the presentations, team Backbone gets to work, but A.S.A.P.’s stylists are angry when the girls arrive late, as they seem to make a habit of doing.
Rehearsals went well, with everyone impressed with NeNe’s direction, but she stepped back as the stylists hit the stage and constantly yelled to Star, who struggled with the technical production. Meanwhile, Meat Loaf tried to get his team to practice more.
But then it was showtime! Team A.S.A.P. started. The dancers Star Jones brought on board did their thing and after a brief introduction by NeNe, the stylists took the stage and Marlee did her best to promote the products while getting styled. However, Hope was singularly unimpressive with her strange strut down the runway. Hopefully, Tyra Banks was not watching!
Team Backbone’s show was introduced by Lil Jon and got off to a slow start. Thankfully, Nikki Taylor, Roots drummer Questlove, and some Mardi Gras beads stirred things up a bit.
So, then we went to the boardroom for the verdict and it seemed a close call. NeNe Leakes was held to account for her earlier outburst and Ivanka pointed out how it created a negative atmosphere. In response, NeNe called Star “a backstabber” and Hope “a puppet.” When Donald Trump that Hope has stayed under the radar throughout the competition, it gives Star vindication to say that NeNe was much more of an asset than Hope.
Team Backbone walked in pretty confident. They explained their reasoning behind bringing Nikki Taylor in and. Ivanka pointed out Lil Jon’s calm demeanor throughout the task. When asked to name their team’s weakest member, Lil Jon said that there was no weak link. Trump then asked if that meant he would take the fall if the team loses. Lil Jon said that they were not going to lose. Period.
And he was right! The execs loved Lil Jon’s enthusiasm on stage, and although they didn’t emphasize the safety factor as request, Backbone won the task. In a surprise bonus, Trump is going to allow LaToya Jackson to work with team Backbone for the rest of the competition.
A triumphant LaToya took her seat with her new team, letting it be known that trusted NeNe over Star, the backstabber and Hope the follower.
So who went home? We didn’t get to find out on air, as the show was interrupted by the President announcing Osama Bin Laden’s death. But, we can reveal to you now that the latest apprentice to be fired was Hope Dworaczyk.
