The Oscar nominated actor admitted that he once battled depression as a result of his drug use.
Pitt, star of Moneyball, for which is nominated for Best Actor Oscar, said drugs made him “really sick” of himself in the 1990s, when he was smoking too much marijuana. He hid away from his celebrity status and turned to the drug to help him cope. He became depressed.
But Pitt says he has not felt that way for maybe ten years, because he figured out who he was.
“I see it as a great education, as one of the seasons or a semester – this semester I was majoring in depression.”
He said at the time he was smoking dope every night in order to sleep.
“I couldn’t wait to get home and hide out.”
But eventually he realized he was wasting his life this way. Brad, whose long-term girlfriend is Angelina Jolie, said he pulled himself out of his funk after seeing extreme poverty while on a trip to Casablanca.
The charity, Rethink Mental Illness, has commended Brad Pitt for candidly speaking out about his battle with depression and drugs.
