Sorry to spill the beans right in the headline, but surely The Bachelor 2012 winner was the worst kept secret in reality TV history. Still, it warms the heart to see true love blossom, doesn’t it?
Let’s relive the moments up to Ben’s proposal to Courtney (some of you may have missed it.)
The show opened with Ben reflecting on his journey on the show and his feelings for both women. Hey we did a bit of that yesterday too!
He said he is in love with both women, but wondered if he has had enough time with Lindzi. Maybe if he had risen above Courtney’s attention seeking…
Still at the Bachelor finale stage, Ben expressed doubts about Courtney.
The two women loved it in Switzerland, though, but I had to laugh at the way the program makers have presented the girls. We already knew about the cloak; did they really need to film Courtney playing with her familiar a cat?
Ben was joined by his mom and sister. Cue happy family reunion and him sharing his journey and feelings for the women with them. His sister warned him against Courtney… again. Maybe the writing was on the wall for Lindzi by this point because Ben blows his sister off, saying she never approves of who he dates anyway but he hopes they will get to know and like his chosen lady.
Lindzi was first to meet the family and they greeted each other with hugs and kisses. Ben reminisced about Lindzi arriving on a horse and giving her the First Impression Rose.
The poor girl was so nervous at lunch she kept dropping things. Julia (Ben’s sister) also questioned Lindzi about Courtney. Lindzi said Courtney is different than her and shut off. This is another red flag to Julia, who shared her concerns with Ben.
So then it was time for the family to meet Courtney. I loved it that Julia actually told Courtney her concerns. Of course, Courtney defended herself. Perhaps put on her guard, Courtney then went totally over the top, praising Ben to his mom. She is in love, she said and likens the romance to a fairytale. Yeah, Grimm!
Julia then gave her approval of both girls, saying Courtney is “sweet” and it felt natural with Lindzi.
The upshot of the family trio seems to be that Lindzi is wife material and Courtney is more of what he wants.
On to the dates, Lindzi was up firs again. Ben took her on a horse drawn carriage ride and then they decided to go skiing by the Matterhorn and enjoy a picinic, where they talked about what his family thinks of her. He told Lindzi they like her and they have his family’s support. They talked about the future and life in general. They of course made out and finally went skiing.
That night, Ben visited Lindzi in her hotel room and she had wine and candles for them. The night ended with them making out again after basically rehashing the same discussion they had been having all season.
Courtney’s last date was more active. First Ben whisked her off in a helicopter and we saw some stunning views of Switzerland. After lunch, a snowball fight and some making out, Ben and Courtney talked about their feelings and the journey they both went through. Basically, it was the same stuff we heard all season again, before making snow angels and sledding.
Back at the hotel room there was more wine and making out. But then there was a surprise for Ben from Courtney. Of course she had to give it to him in the bedroom, but relax, it was only a scrapbook of pictures, love letters and memories. I seem to remember Blakeley doing the same thing before she got the boot.
There was some tension as they discuss Courtney’s failure to get on with the other women. Courtney was upset that Ben told his family about it. After their disagreement Ben left her wondering what he would do next.
Again Ben chose a ring with Neil Lane and hoped he wouldn’t have to do this again.
So we reached the moment of truth. Lindzi was first to hear the news so I guess we knew how this was going to go, but Ben got her hopes up, telling her how much he loves her how much he means to her. He said he fell in love with her, but needs those moments to last a lifetime… and he found it with someone else. He is in love with someone else.
Courtney’s reflecting on her Bachelor journey was all about her. She is a good person and good things happen to good people, she said.
Ben told Courtney how she took his breath away. Yeah, she made me gasp a few times too…
Ben said he knows they will be in love for ever or else he would not propose again. with much excited squealing, Courtney accepted Ben’s final rose and his proposal.
Ben Flajnik and Courtney Robertson got engaged.
