The late, great actress, Audrey Hepburn, has been voted as the most beautiful woman of the last 100 years, in a poll by TV shopping channel QVC. She beat Cheryl Cole into second place and left many other modern day beauties trailing in her wake.
Hepburn is probably most famous for her starring role in the class movie, ‘Breakfast At Tiffany’s’. She triumphed over such beauties as Scarlett Johansson and even Angelina Jolie to reach the top spot. Even Marilyn Monroe could only make it to third, behind Hepburn and the beautiful and high profile Girls Aloud member, Cheryl Cole.
Despite her tragically early death in 1993 from cancer at just 63, Audrey still managed to beat off stiff competition from today’s modern beauties.
An interesting fact is that only women were surveyed. 2000 of them. Would the answer have been different of men’s votes were counted? Are men more likely to have opted for modern women they see all the time on the TV and the covers of magazines, or the classic beauties that many women today strive to emulate in looks and style?
This is Hepburn’s second 2010 triumph. The little black Givenchy number she wore in ‘Breakfast At Tiffany’s’ was named as the best female outfit of all time. It’s largely because of this movie and this outfit that we HAVE ‘a little black dress’. Go on, ladies. Admit it. We’ve all either got one or want one!
Lovefilm editor Helen Cowley explained why Audrey was a deserving winner: “Audrey Hepburn has truly made that little black dress a fashion staple which has stood the test of time despite competition from some of the most stylish females around.”
