Amy Winehouse secretly got engaged to boyfriend Reg Traviss weeks before her untimely death on July 23.
The ‘Tears Dry on their Own’ singer, who passed away suddenly on July 23 at her London home, reportedly agreed to marry the filmmaker after he gave her a diamond ring. She also vowed to put her wild lifestyle behind her, according to friends of the tragic star.
A source said that Amy loved Reg and all she wanted was to marry him and start a family with him. They were committed to spending the rest of their lives together.
Tragically, that was to be a very short time. On the afternoon of July 23 paramedics were called to Winehouse’s Camden home. Reports vary as to whether there were signs of life when help arrived but Amy was certified dead at the house.
The singer’s battles with drink and drugs were well documented. But Amy spent a week in rehab in June and told loved ones afterwards she was determined to quit drinking. Her father, Mitch, is adamant that she kicked her drug habit three years ago.
Friends say Amy Winehouse was planning a future with Reg Traviss. Other reports, denied by Winehouse’s rep, suggested that she was intending to adopt a 10-year-old St. Lucian girl. Whatever, it seemed that Amy had plans she will now never carry out.
The cause of death is as yet unknown. An initial autopsy proved inconclusive and results of toxicology reports are awaited.
In his daughter’s honor, Mitch has met with British Members of Parliament to talk about his plans to set up the Amy Winehouse Foundation, a charitable organization to fund a rehab unit to help young people who cannot afford private care, and called for more public funding into similar schemes. He has the support of Labour politician Keith Vaz.
