Mitch, who is a keen amateur singer with ambitions to be professional, was asked to support former Bros star Matt Goss when he plays the Royal Albert Hall on October 21. He has agreed to accept the invitation to sing so that he can raise awareness of his planned Amy Winehouse Foundation.
Mitch has revealed that he was in New York preparing for his US singing debut when he found out his daughter had died. He was to have sang at the Blue Note jazz club. A devastated Mitch canceled the scheduled appearance to fly straight back home to London upon hearing the news.
However, now the grieving father has realized that he could possibly use his singing talent for a good cause, raising money for her foundation.
“So when Matt Goss called me to ask me to open his show at the Royal Albert Hall this was a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness for the foundation,” Mitch said.
The two men immediately bonded and they shared the experience of Matt losing his sister Carline at a tragically young age too. Mitch in turn shared how Amy Winehouse used to be a massive Bros fan as a child. She even had their posters on her bedroom wall.
Both Matt and Mitch are keen that the October 21 concert should be a happy occasion “in memory of both his sister and Amy.”
Winehouse was found dead at her London home last month. Details of toxicology tests released this week show she had not taken illegal drugs in the hours before her death.
