Amy Winehouse was found dead at her north London home at around 4pm GMT today (7am PDT) .
Two ambulances were called to an address in Camden Square at 3:54 pm (14.54 GMT). The call to emergency services apparently stated that a woman had been found dead.
The ambulances arrived within five minutes but there was nothing that paramedics could do and Amy Winehouse was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say that her death is currently being treated as unexplained and no links have yet been made to drink or drugs.
The Back to Black singer, with her trademark beehive, had a much publicized struggle with addictions to drink and drugs which sometimes overshadowed her musical talents.
The Grammy award-winning soul singer documented her troubles in her hit single Rehab.
A section of the road outside Winehouse’s home has been cordoned off and police officers are keeping back the crowd of reporters, local residents and fans. Forensic officers have been seen going in and out of the building as inquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage there is no comment from her agents.
Winehouse shot to fame after winning five Grammy awards off the back of her 2006 second album Back to Black and the hit single Rehab. She had received addiction treatment several times but recently hit more trouble, having been booed off-stage in Belgrade and then later cancelling her entire summer tour just last week.
