First we got a look at all the girls. more information on all the contenders check out my previous post.
A few of the models stood out: On the American side it was Azmarie, a proud American lesbian, Laura because of her frizzy hair and loud personality and because one of the first things she does is announce that she’s a Leo. Ebony was quiet and mainly spoke about the importance of school.
On the British side, Ashley stood out as I warned you she would, because of her strong Scottish accent. I thought it was cute as she commented to the camera that she knows she’ll be “subtitled” and of course she’s right on that. Annaliese stood out as possibly the loudest girl in the competition. So it was a bit ironic that Alisha, a pretty British black girl complained about the “loud American girls.”
So the deafening parade of screaming over drumming probably drove her as crazy as it did me.All the contestants wore skimpy military marching band-inspired outfits with lots of glitter and buttons. It does fit in with the “battle of the Brits versus the Yanks” theme that Tyra Banks announces, though, I guess.
So, the girls marched in pairs, one Brit and one American, and finally the girls talk about the glaringly obvious, that the British girls have all appeared on the British version of Top Model, while they don’t have that experience.
Dissent already and we hadn’t even got to the first photo shoot!
When we did, it was all about each girl dressing as a famous person from their country. They also had to jump on a trampoline while 60 cameras captured their photos.
So what was Alisha doing in hideous shiny pants and in a nauseating combination of pale blue and green? Oh, she’s being Elton John. Right. Because we all know what a fashion god Elton John is.
Azmarie was okay as George Washington. A Native American girl, Mariah, is Pocahontas and I loved that she winced a bit at having to be her, but still just does it anyway. I personally think Mariah is one to watch as the winner, but no, I haven’t seen any spoilers for this cycle’s winner, yet. I don’t suppose it will be long before I do.
Oh, a British girl, Kyle, was also good as Andy Warhol, I thought.
So who were the judges impressed by and who were they not? By the way, I loved Kelly Osbourne as a judge.
All the judges really liked American Symone, as Michelle Obama and so did I. In the end, Jasmia, an American who was John Lennon, and Ashley, the Brit with the Scottish accent, who was one of the worst Princess Di’s I’ve seen, were left standing.
Poor Jasmia got eliminated after this first assignment and Ashley got another chance.
Who are your favorites and least favorites so far on this season of America’s Top Model? Did the right person go home?
