‘America’s Next Top Model: British Invasion’ Cycle 18 Episode 8 Recap: Symone Eliminated

Last night on the latest episode of ‘America’s Next Top Model,’ the remaining contestants competed to open a fashion show for one of the Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize finalists. But the heavy Hello Kitty couture gowns may not have been quite what the models thought they’d be wearing. The guest judge was Georgina Chapman. We also lots some familiar faces; photographer Nigel Barker, runway coach Miss J and creative director Mr Jay were all fired.

So how would the models react to their previous feedback from the panel? Instead of the usual tears and tantrums, Alicia, who had been somewhat slated, vowed she would do better this week. Did she manage it?

The catwalk challenge took them to The Beverly Hills Hotel. One there, they are told they would be opening a fashion show. They meet the four designers and walk for them but Kelly is not impressed by any of them. That set Symone sulking… again… although the other girls warned her that that way defeat lies.

The designers had $40,000 riding on the opening and the best model was to win it: the Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize.

Anndra Neen had Alicia is opening, Julain Louie had Annaliese opening and Siki Im and Giuletta had Sophie opening. They all did pretty well but the winner of the Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize was Anndra Neen which excited Alicia.

Next, at Siren Studios, there was a challenge which called for the models to wear Hello Kitty design for 16 year old photographer Anne He.

I loved Alicia in this challenge but the photographer felt Sophie didn’t really know what she was doing. Symone just… moaned. Eboni struggled too.

So what was the feedback from the panel?

Symone – Nigel said her face looked great but the pose was fashion 101.  Kelly called it “stumbling.” “A little bit show and tell” said Tyra.

Laura – the photo brought Tyra back to her childhood.

Eboni – the necessary humor and playfulness were missing. Tyra thought her face was “fierce.”

Katherine – the judges loved her face, especially her eyes, but they felt her body language was a bit obvious.

Alicia – Kelly loved the picture, and this time ‘fierce’ was good.  It was ‘hot,’ too, apparently.

Sophie – Kelly loved the silhouette and pose but not her face.

Annaliese – The judges loved the pose but not her face.

So all that meant that Alicia got best photo and Sophie was the runner-up. Symone and Eboni were in the bottom two and Symone was the one eliminated. Yes, Alicia turned it around.
