America’s Got Talent 2012 Recap: New York Auditions Part 2

New York, New York; so good they named it twice. And so good that there had to be two ‘America’s Got Talent’ auditions in the city. This time, we had Howard Stern’s parents in the audience.

The first act as all-singing, all-dancing Ronald Charles. Sharon and Howard were soon on their buzzers but Howie hung on…for a while. This one was dreadful. Even Howard’s father agreed with his son’s comment that Ronald needs to get another job. “Don’t be stupid, you have to make a living” they go rigt up on stage to tell him. Ronald told Howard that he graduated from high school when he was 15, which might have been more impressive had he not then called him “ma’am”. Everyone gives him a no.

Next, Holly and James roller skated onto the stage. They didn’t stay long as they were terrible too. Another disaster came in the form of mimes that are “lost in the jungle” then an Elvis impersonator. Remind me again why we’re getting a second audition show from New York?

Oh I know why: comedy ventriloquist John Pizzi. He’s spent 28 years perfecting his act and it’s great. I, along with all the judges, loved the original act. You’re going to Vegas, baby!

Donovan and Rebecca were an amazing aerial and acrobatic act, although last night we understandably didn’t see any aerial work. It gives the somewhere to go next, as they easily got through to Vegas. Howard loved how fresh and spectacular they were. Sharon felt like she was watch a love scene from a sci-fi movie. Howie was shocked that Rebecca can lift Donovan and they all said yes.

Another acrobatic group of girls got through too and so did the band Ivy Rose. I get those two. What I don’t get is why All Beef Patty, a man in drag, got through to the next stage too.

Tom Connor was a truly funny stand up comic who feels like he has always flown below the radar, so this was big for him. He needn’t have worried. Howie gave him a standing ovation, Sharon thought his timing was great, spot on and he genuinely made Howard laugh. Three yeses.

Tyrece Green, a.k.a. Stepz is a dance teacher with the most amazing routine. The cild of drug addicts he was raised by his grandmother but his father recently got clean, he says and he’s so proud of him. This guys is ridiculously talented but I shared Howard’s reservations that this might not be the kind of act people will pay to see. Howie loved his unique moves. After some thought, Sharon put him through to Vegas.

So Howard went for a guy smashing himself in the nuts and an old-timer rapper, but not someone as talented as this? Thankfully, it didn’t matter.

The last act of the day was Savage Men, basically strippers I was so relieved Sharon said no to them so we never have to see them again.

So there it was: New Yotk Part 2 of the ‘America’s Got Talent’ auditions. I’m not sure it was worth a second show but there were a couple of really good acts in there.
