Ahead of this weeks two shows, we thought it would be a good idea to take a closer look at the Top 13 “American Idol” contestants. Bring on the girls!
Lauren Alaina (16) comes from Rossville, Ga. Steven Tyler has loved her country-pop voice from Day 1, even joining her to sing “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing”. Rocking out to Reba McEntire’s “Turn On the Radio” drew comparisons to both Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. Well, they were both winners so it looks promising for Lauren.
Thia Megia (16) is a tiny girl with perfect pitch. She is quiet and unassuming but her performances are captivating. Her performances are dramatic and she is well in control of her beautiful voice.
Haley Reinhart (20) hails from Chicago, Illinois. Her soulful vocals and ability to work an audience have seen her shine on stage.
Naima Adedapo (26) from Milwaukee, is a funky jazz-soul singer with dreads and distinctive bright, flowing gowns. Steven Tyler compared her to an early Ella Fitzgerald and the judges were happy to give her a wild card.
Karen Rodriguez (21) from New York, really belts it out and that bodes well for her ambition to be the first Latina American Idol winner. Her bilingual voice control is great.
Ashthon Jones (24) from Nashville, Tennessee has a huge voice and the confidence to match. Randy has already compared this former model to Diana Ross with her sultry R&B vibe. America wasn’t convinced but the judges gave her a wild card. She does own the stage but she will need that to translate to TV audiences if she is to progress.
Pia Toscano (22) from Queens, New York got the season’s first standing ovation wit her version of The Pretenders’ “I’ll Stand by You.” She has the experience of singing the National Anthem at a Mets game and has opened for Bare Naked Ladies. She has the whole package of good looks, confidence and talent.
So, we have girls in the Top 13. Is your favorite among these girls?
