OK, so I didn’t correctly guess the eliminated contestant yesterday but at least America’s bottom three was pretty much my bottom three or four. Karen Rodriguez is going home! We thought her bilingual singing abilities would keep her in just a little longer, but just forgot to factor in the lipstick sympathy vote for Haley and thought you guys might give Naima a break for being first up on stage and having already suffered the bottom three.
Here’s how the night panned out:
The show opened with the Idols singing a mash-up of “Born to Be Wild” and Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way”. We didn’t need to be told it was completely live because boy was it awful! It wasn’t just the singing, either. We bet the sound guy had some questions to answer because almost every time someone new started to sing, the mic wasn’t on. Epic fail!
Then there was lots of filler, with all studio audience members getting a free 10-year anniversary CD. Then it was time for contestants’ interviews and someone had obviously given the bleeper button guy a drink – either that, or he has a twitch. Will someone please tell him what Pia knows, that “shih tzu” is a dog breed! Crazy, man!
Of course, they had to mention St. Patrick’s Day, but what was with the lighting gag?
Finally, after much messing around and false suspense creation, we discover the Bottom 3. First up, Jacob Lusk, Lauren Alaina and Casey Abrams discover they’re all safe. Then Haley Reinhart and Paul McDonald are called up. We weren’t really worried for Paul at this stage and sure enough, he’s safe. But Haley is not and I was clapping my little hands in excitement that Haley hit the bottom 3 for the second week in a row. But the lipstick thing was kinda bothering me then. It was embarrassing and she was cute about it.
After a performance from Lee DeWyze Scotty McCreery, Pia Toscano and James Durbin are all safe. Next up are Stefano Langone and Naima Adedapo. Since Stefano did the performance of the night it’s no surprise that he is safe and Naima is once more in the bottom three. Then came the only real tension. We can count so we knew that only one of Thia Megia and Karen Rodriguez could be safe. Now, with Thia making a cute 15-year-old Pocohantas and Karen singing in two languages, I wouldn’t have been surprised at this going either way, but we discover Thia is safe, Karen is not.
So the Bottom 3 is named: Haley Reinhart, Naima Adedapo and Karen Rodriquez. Karen is the one who has to sing again for the judges’ save. But with a passable re-run of her version of Mariah Carey’s “Hero”, we wouldn’t give it to her and the judges don’t either. Jennifer Lopez was probably on her side but Randy probably wasn’t. We’ve seen what Karen can do and now we won’t be seeing it next week. She gives about a B+ performance. I wouldn’t save her. Farewell, Karen Rodriguez, and Haley Reinhart, I’ll be watching you. No more kissing the mic’ and lipstick carnage!
So, what are your thoughts on the Bottom 3 and the eliminated contestant?
