Ethan’s father Todd himself is keen to clear up the misunderstanding. But either Ethan or the American Idol producers (or both) seemed to deliberately mislead the TV audience.
Todd Jones says he was not actually in rehab when his son auditioned for American Idol.
But I watched the show, and you probably did too. Ethan said he was in a band back in St. Louis with his dad, but his father had to leave the band to go to rehab. He seemed to say on the show that his father is still in rehab. Certainly the judges took it that way.
Steven Tyler, who has struggled with addiction himself, even said,
“I want to meet your father when he gets out.”
Well, Steven could do that quite easily, because Todd says he has been out of rehab for the past six months. The actual reason he couldn’t be with his son at the audition was because he was attending a funeral.
Jones says he would love to meet Steven Tyler and feels it would be “enlightening” to hear Tyler’s experiences.
So what do you think to Ethan Jones now? Will this have damaged his chances in the show?
