The CPS in Indiana held an emergency hearing yesterday over concerns about Leah’s safety and living conditions. But it was nothing to do with Portwood’s care of the child. Nor is it directly linked to Portwood’s history of aggressive behavior which landed her in court as little as two days ago. The reason was that both Portwood’s car and house have been vandalized recently. The CPS considers this targeting of the family by vandals puts little Leah at risk.
Gary Shirley, Leah’s Dad, was awarded temporary custody of the little girl. And Amber has apparently agreed that this is the best thing for their daughter right now.
Of course, Amber (20) will have visitation rights to see and maintain a relationship with her daughter.
It’s a difficult time for Amber Portwood right now. Only a couple of days ago we were reporting to you how she was in court for a hearing surrounding felony charges. They are in connection with a physical assault on the father of her baby. At that time, Amber rejected a proposed plea deal. She turned down house arrest with an electronic tag because she said it would not allow her to parent properly.
Well, now Gary Shirley is doing the parenting for Leah’s own safety and Amber Portwood has 60 days to suggest an alternative plea deal. The next trial date is set for November 16, 2011.
